We are bravely going to try and do a tv series….only 3 episodes… but The Pursuit of Love is happening- I am so excited. Claire Williams is a brilliant designer / HOD, and I am learning a lot with her and Clarice the main team supervisor. Crowd will be a challenge as SA’s are being triple cast, so one day a student, the next a train passenger, and then finishing the week as a prisoner of war….but I feel ready…Have repaired my moustaches. Made some semi transformations,…practised my marcel waves, and even made some waistcoats. I need to go back to work…
So…this is boring….it’s summer and we are locked in……I have made up my mind to use the time and I am doing finger wave/ marcel wave practice…..harder than it looks…..but worth it for the next job……always something to do, something to learn,…
( Am also trying to buy a new flat. Who does that during a lockdown? )
Sooo, this virus thing is a bigger drag than I/we thought… I went to the Tate and ogled the Aubrey Beardsley exhibit – me and 12 other people..(.upside to limiting entrance numbers.) love these shapes….would love to do something with the ideas……
Hmm, this has become a lockdown… new phrase, we are in for a month or so, weather is sunny and I have loads to do…but not much to show…so this is more of the Spanish Princess…. we had a Field of Gold week, the Spanish the English and the French all looking posh…
But we did dirty and dying too… Black Death, the plague or the pox…….but with blankies cause it was cold……
And that’s a wrap on Spanish Princess….and up dos and down dos….and more beards…. next job – The Pursuit of Love…hurragh, Nancy Mitford and the 1930’s …..
Delayed by a couple of weeks, apparently, there is a virus doing the rounds that maybe a bit of bother.
Spanish Princess: working out of the Bottleyard in Bristol, again. I feel like perhaps I should move.
Amazing crowd team, Sarah Whalley as my assistant, – keeping me ticking over with modern technology, Erin, Sue, Charlotte, Heulwen…and so many more….who worked in all sorts of cold, damp, and muddy places to bring Tudor England to life. This was a posh party… Extensions and rolls for the woman, wigs for the men, and beards galore.
I am running crowd again….Another huge period tv thing…can’t share pictures yet…but Britannia, which I did last year is out, so I can show these. I am desperate to do something elegant – Britannia was anything but….the fake pooh ( made with coffee ) just cemented my dislike of the smell of instant coffee – but it looked good. We wove, we knotted, we made hair pieces, and we worked our socks off……another great team, ( some of whom are now with me on Spanish Princess…..
I treated myself to a weekend at Blakes…beautiful hotel….expensive but I had just sorted out ….an A listers wig for a …big movie…can’t really say what, but that’s the back of her head…and they wanted it in a hurry….hmm, ok.
This also lead to doing work on the film…lovely people, not my sort of work, tattoos and scars…but always good to learn. In the end I tinkered with 3 wigs….and made a permanent friend of her American hair person…..

I was asked to sort out a wig for a Cardiff based tv series called the Light, ( later renamed the Accident) it was Babs Southcott, a make up legend, who rang me…so off I went. She then asked me to help with filming in Cardiff…and why not. Doing Upstairs Downstairs in Wales is still one of my favourite memories – so I packed my bags and jumped into my new car – great fun…and I got to met the legend that is Russel T Davis…- who is a friend of Babs. And caught up with Adrian Scarborough, Upstairs Downstairs unflappable butler Mr Pritchard, playing quite a different role in this….
And another show at the Royal Academy….a little bit more of a challenge….City of Angels, everyone has two characters, – one of whom is in a black and white movie.
Iver students again came galloping to the rescue….I teach there sometimes….loved the music, loved the show.
